What is the Eye Test Chart?
The Snellen chart has rows of letters that get smaller; the smallest row you can read at a set distance gives your visual acuity (e.g. 6/6 or 20/20 is normal). Print a correctly sized chart for a 3 or 6 metre room, or calibrate your screen with a bank card and test on screen. Test each eye separately, with and without glasses.
How to use the Eye Test Chart
- Choose the test distance and print (at 100% scale) – or calibrate your screen.
- Stand at the distance, cover one eye and read from top to bottom.
- Note the smallest line you read correctly; repeat for the other eye.
Important
This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. See an optometrist or eye doctor for a full eye exam, especially for children, diabetics, headaches or sudden vision changes.
This Eye Test Chart is 100% free, needs no signup and runs privately in your browser – on phone, tablet or computer.
