What is the Steel Bar Weight Calculator?
Builders and engineers use the simple formula weight (kg/m) = D² ÷ 162, where D is the bar diameter in mm. Enter the bar size, length and number of bars to get the total weight – and optionally the cost at today’s rate per kg or per ton.
How to use the Steel Bar Weight Calculator
- Select or type the bar diameter (mm).
- Enter the length of one bar (12 m / 40 ft is standard) and the quantity.
- Add a rate to estimate the cost.
Weight per metre
- 8 mm – 0.395 kg
- 10 mm – 0.617 kg
- 12 mm – 0.889 kg
- 16 mm – 1.580 kg
- 20 mm – 2.469 kg
- 25 mm – 3.858 kg
Why 162?
Steel density 7850 kg/m³ × π/4 × D² ÷ 10⁶ ≈ D²/162.
This Steel Bar Weight Calculator is 100% free, needs no signup and runs privately in your browser – on phone, tablet or computer.
