What is the File Encrypt & Decrypt?
Send or store sensitive files safely. Choose a file and a strong password – the tool encrypts it with AES-256-GCM (the same standard used by banks and governments) using a key derived with PBKDF2 (600,000 iterations). You get a .enc file that only someone with the password can open with this tool. All processing happens locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How to use the File Encrypt & Decrypt
- Choose Encrypt, pick a file and enter a strong password.
- Download the .enc file and share the password separately (e.g. by phone).
- To open: choose Decrypt, pick the .enc file and enter the password.
Important
There is no password recovery – if you forget the password, the file cannot be decrypted. Use a passphrase you can remember or store it in a password manager.
