What is the AC Size Calculator?
An AC that is too small runs all day without cooling; one that is too big wastes power and leaves the room damp. This calculator starts with about 45 BTU per square foot (suited to hot South-Asian and Gulf summers) and adjusts for ceiling height, direct sun, top floor, hot climate, extra people and kitchens, then rounds up to a standard size.
How to use the AC Size Calculator
- Enter room length and width (feet or metres).
- Answer the questions about sun, floor and people.
- Read the recommended AC size in tons and BTU.
Quick guide (normal room)
- Up to 120 sq ft – 0.75 ton
- 120–180 sq ft – 1 ton
- 180–250 sq ft – 1.5 ton
- 250–350 sq ft – 2 ton
- 1 ton = 12,000 BTU/h
Tip
Inverter ACs handle a slightly larger room better and save electricity.
This AC Size Calculator is 100% free, needs no signup and runs privately in your browser – on phone, tablet or computer.
